We need your help to raise funds for two major priorities in 2022.
Our first priority is the James D. Schramm Scholarship awarded to a fisheries student at one of our Council’s universities. Each year we give a $1,000 scholarship to a master’s or doctoral level student planning a career in fisheries. Recent awardees include Nicole Watson, MSU; So Jung Youn, MSU; and Kelly Hoyer, CMU.
The second priority is the Great Lakes Council’s Conservation Grant program which supports conservation projects across our region. If we can fund these grants, Fly Fishers International will provide matching funds.
The conservation project we continue to support this year with a $1,500 grant is the Pere Marquette River Railroad Stream Bank Restoration. The Council plans to provide a grant to the Conservation Resource Alliance & Pere Marquette Watershed Council to help stabilize the stream bank along the railroad that runs adjacent to the upper PM fly water. If the eroding bank in this section is not stabilized, a train could end up in the river and threaten the health of the entire watershed.
